Workforce participation in the safety and health of all employees is vital to a successful safety environment. Employee participation in health and safety matters is crucial to achieving employee “buy-in,” especially in organizations where workplace safety has not always been valued. Employees are interested in their own safety and health, and often have more explicit knowledge of potential hazards in their work areas than managers. When given the opportunity, employees can take responsibility for supporting management in safety-related programs, training, hazard identification and safety problem solving.
